It is the largest masonry structure in the Western Hemisphere, and is composed of over 16 million bricks.” -WP I’ve been obsessed with Fort Jefferson for a few days now. It’s a giant civil-war era gun platform designed to defend the entrance to the Gulf of Mexico. Check out where it’s located. It’s a National Park so you can camp there ($5/night + seaplane tix), but bring your own water because the Dry Torugas are named that for a reason. Imagine pitching a tent and spending the night here.
